Are you going to sew a swimsuit with your own hands? Then you need to know what material to choose for this sewing project. And, of course, you will need a good pattern.

The main feature of all swimwear is that in appearance it is underwear, but, in fact - outerwear. This duality implies special care when choosing a fabric for sewing a swimsuit or swimming trunks.

Mostly swimwear is sewn from special highly elastic knitted materials that hold their shape well.

Materials for swimwear should have the following specific characteristics:

- resistance to the effects of the sun, sea or chlorinated water, do not lose color for several seasons;

- keep in shape after getting wet and do not deform after washing;

- elasticity and density - fit the body well and do not become transparent when wet;

- possess high hygroscopicity - dry quickly;

- strength, namely, the material must be resistant to mechanical damage.

- have hygiene and hypoallergenicity: do not irritate the skin and do not cause allergic reactions;

- be safe: although the materials are mostly synthetic, they should not be toxic.

With all these characteristics, the material for the swimsuit should also be pleasant, light, bright and beautiful, while at the same time performing an aesthetic and practical function.

Biflex - the perfect material for a swimsuit

Among all materials for swimwear, elastic and elastic supplex are especially popular. It stretches in any direction and at the same time instantly returns to its original shape.

Biflex is easy to care for. The material dries quickly, does not peel, does not crease, so it does not need to be ironed. Biflex products are erased at a temperature not exceeding 30 degrees, manually or in a washing machine in a delicate mode, without spinning.

  • Use fine threads and needles to sweep parts. When sweeping and sewing, fold the cut parts with the front side inwards.
  • For knitwear there are special needles of the sewing machine. These needles have rounded ends, so that thin loops of fabric when pierced by a needle are not damaged.
  • For sewing on the machine, use special waterproof threads or durable textured overlock threads.
  • To preserve the elasticity of the seams, use narrow zigzag stitches (0.5–1 mm stitch width, 3–4 mm stitch length) or special elastic stitches provided in your sewing machine.
  • Bind at the beginning and end of each seam.
  • Overcast seam allowances with elastic zigzag or overlock stitches.
  • For a more snug fit swimsuit to the body, at the seams, you can skip waterproof and form-resistant elastic.
